Sinking poop is a sign there is some ama (toxins) in the system. Probably too many heavy foods or foods that don't digest well for your dosha. Try having fresher and lighter foods like fruits, veggies, some good oils (ghee, olive), and healthy grains. How you portion them out will depend on your dosha. Here is a post on food portioning to help: http://heymonicab.com/2010/09/plate-portions/

Overall, you can't really go too wrong if you eat lots of fruits and plants. Try to eat really fresh foods and see if you get a floaty poop! :)

What about sinking poop, then after a while of Pooping it starts to float in mushy little pebbles? Am I eating too much fats or solids?

Hey Naxx! I don't know why docs that say it's ok to go that infrequently, but I can speak from an Ayurvedic perspective. You eat food every day, right? That food is processed, absorbed, used as energy and then some of it is waste. The waste needs to come OUT every day or it will sit inside and back up the entire system. Not only will it back up and clog channels, but waste is toxic. If it's not removed it will affect our entire body and soul. Not pooping daily is a sign of a larger problem that needs to be addressed, whether it be diet, exercise, stress relief, etc., so Ayurveda takes that very seriousy. Western medicine and Ayurveda do not overlap in too many areas so it is quite common for Ayurveda and doctors to clash with their theories.

In winter, spices are good and okay for you. When it's summer and hot, be more mindful of the spices. If you get a little bit of heartburn, that's a great indication that it's time to hold off on spices until it gets cooler outside. Hope this helps.

Hey Jane! Read the Toots about Fiber! I don't know what dosha(s) you are either but it sounds like you have a vata problem in your digestion. So here's what you do. Eat all warm/cooked foods with some sort of sauce/goo. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water every day. Yes, it's a lot but it will help! Have oils (ghee, olive, flax) in your diet. No coffee, no cold drinks/ice, no raw veggies (cooked is ok!), no dry foods like pretzels or crackers or popcorn. Have fruits. Follow a vata-balancing diet at least for now and take the dosha test to find out what you are. If you really need a remedy, buy some prunes. You can soak 3-5 of them over night in water - eat them in the morning (that's breakfast!) and sip warm water all morning. Around 11/11:30 you should go :)
