Hey Marit! Congrats on the new move - I know boxes and clutter is NOT easy to live with! But it sounds like you turned it around to have a nice meal - awesome! I love this "practice not perfection" - you hit the nail on the head. Good job and enjoy a great weekend!! xo

holy cow! this is EXACTLY what i needed to read today. i'm in the middle of a huge move and we've been living out of boxes for weeks, eating out, snacking here and there and finally last night i dug out some plates and a pot and put a table top on some boxes and we sat down and ate together, my husband and i, face to face, and it was marvelous! i miss consciously eating food so much. i love the challenge because it gives me something to strive for. a reminder of my own beliefs that i've seemed to stray pretty far from these last few months. and i'll try to remember, practice not perfection - otherwise i end up beating myself up! :)
once again, thank you thank you thank you monica b!!!

I love your second suggestion especially. We in WI over EAT all the time! Slow down, taste it, and let your tummy feel full. LOVE IT. Keep it coming.

Thank you for sharing your experience Kristy. It's a really interesting observation and certainly you are not alone in this habit. Start to think about what is it about that tv that makes you comfortable. Is it because it signals "downtime" or maybe you live alone and hear the sound of people? Maybe you ate dinner in front of the tv when you were little, so it's like your sanctuary? Or are you escaping being alone with yourself? Whatever the reason, start to ask yourself what makes that ritual so comforting for you. From there you can get to the root cause and get the "aha!" moment. From there you can unravel it so that it's not a habit any longer. There's a good book, If the Buddha Came To Dinner. Might be a fun one for you to pick up someday :) Namaste.

This is something I fail at almost everyday.
I have fallen into the habit of eating in front of the TV at night.

When i eat away from my desk at work, it's with my colleagues..and sometimes the work chat is not conducive either.

But the night time TV eating...That is becoming a very solid habit. I am thinking about eating my dinner in front of the tv right now, and i feel comforted...
