Hey Monica, loving the seasonal Bloom and all the vata tips, thanks so much!
I went straight out and bought sesame oil and have been slathering diligently since… also using it as lip balm for my chapped lips and it works really well.
I also crocheted my own cup warmer last night after seeing those cool ones in your feature & am keeping my digits nice and toasty on it right now!
    Hurrahh for autumn!

  • 15 Diana // Nov 28, 2010 at 9:54 am

I am trying to find a very good online course to enroll in -can you suggest one that will really give me the knowledge I need plus the support/help to begin to use my new skills?
Awaiting your reply, Diana/ Fatimah Karimah

  • 16 Monica // Nov 28, 2010 at 8:05 pm

Hi Diana, my school Kerala Ayurveda had a really good online program. Other options: Mount Madonna might have one, CCA (California College of Ayurveda) might have one… Most online courses cover the same information but it will depend on your schedule as to which one most resonates. Definitely call which ever schools you are looking at and ask lots of questions. Also, you can do online but you must do hands on training as well. So you could start with online and add attend workshops, weekend lectures, and/or specialized training. One cannot learn Ayurveda only online…it’s a life science so we have to practice with LIFE!

Thank you, Monica!!! This is a beautiful guide that you have written and so generously shared with all of us. I will surely pass it along to some fellow Vatas that I know. You know how much we appreciate a good read! So guess where I just came from (I think you might be jealous)? My appointment at Pratima Spa! One fringe benefit of living in crazy NYC is that I am a 5 minute walk from Pratima’s. This is good for my body and soul but bad for my pocketbook! Anyway, thought I would mention it because I saw that you referenced her book, “Absolute Beauty”.
Thanks, again for the gift! :) Barbara

Hi Monica! I love your blog and the Seasonal Bloom is a keeper. Quick question please….I’m having a tough time locating Natalya’s stuff on Etsy. Can you provide that info again? Thanks so much and please keep posting. I look forward to checking your site!

  • 19 Monica // Nov 30, 2010 at 9:24 pm

Yay! Thanks Kathryn! Bummer about finding Natalya. Here is the link to her cute store :) Enjoy and sorry for the delay: http://www.etsy.com/shop/natalya1905?ref=pr_profile

Thanks for the encouragement. It’s wonderful to know you all are lovin on the Ayurveda!! xo

  • 20 Monica // Nov 30, 2010 at 9:29 pm

Barbara!!! Youuuuuu got to go to Pratima today!? YES! So intrigued! I want to know everything! I wish we could sit for tea and you could tell me all about it. I would love to meet her someday. Hah! Aren’t all spa’s bad for the pocketbook? Did you read her book? She’s got good secrets in there – tons of recipes for her facials and things – really cool! Ahhh…thanks for the fun note Barbara and for the kind support always. Sleep well now with your glowing skin :) xo

    Monica,
You are so Phenomenal!!!!!!!! Can I have just a little. I have the energy but the computer stuff is a challenge.

PS. Am coming to a weekend retreat in Santa Monica. Do you have a couch or know of a cheap place to stay the last weekend in February?
    Namaste Rose

  • 22 Janet // Dec 4, 2010 at 8:44 am

Monica, I just read your whole book, and am going to get the cumin, coriander and fennel to make tea!! Am experimenting with different types of teas (oolong, spearmint — I really like that -) so I’m looking forward to this — Snowing out right now, so I’ll make a quick dash to the store before coming back home and baking and brewing this tea — oh, also on the list is some almond oil!!

    Love ya

  • 23 Monica // Dec 6, 2010 at 9:52 pm

  • 36 Autumn // Jan 30, 2013 at 11:40 am

I love your website. I just downloaded Bloom and cannot wait to read it! I am VATA, and have been using oils with some success to feel better. (mornings are much better now).
When I was a teenager, I began having stomach issues. They felt like cold wind blowing around in my abdomen. 20 years later now, after I eat, I get this “lump” that develops a few inches above my belly button, and to the left. It’s a mass of heat or wind or something. This then, sometimes, travels up into my left sinus and causes mucus.
I have been treating myself for a vata condition since I have clearly been very dry for many years.
    But maybe this is Kapha?

  • 37 Priti // Feb 2, 2013 at 3:28 am

thanks a lot for this :)

  • 38 Monica // Feb 2, 2013 at 11:57 pm

    Hi Autumn,
Yay, I hope you enjoy the Seasonal Bloom for vata! Hmm…I’m not sure what the lump might be. Have you seen an Ayurvedic practitioner or acupuncturist about it? They might have some insight for you. If it is some sort of stalled digestion, you could try making Indian Lemonade Appetizer and eat it before meals. If anything, it’s great for all doshas to keep digestion moving smoothly!

  • 39 Autumn // Feb 11, 2013 at 11:51 am

I did enjoy Seasonal Bloom. And it helped me very much.
Do you have any Ayurvedic practitioners you could recommend in the northern NYC area?

I’ve been to several accupuncturists, the effect usually only last for the day.

I often make ginger tea, maybe that is why the issue comes and goes.
I will try this recipe tonight!

    Thank you

  • 40 Monica // Feb 11, 2013 at 10:49 pm

Hi Autumn! Hmmm…I don’t know of anyone in northern NYC, but Dr. Pratima Raichur is in NYC. You could also check the joyfulbelly.com website and see if they have any practitioners on there in your area. Good luck! And ginger tea is awesome! :)
