MY STORY

In 2006, I embarked on “Project Monica” which as bascially my attempt to unravel and heal depression, loneliness, feelings of inadequacy, and riding a continuous emotional roller coaster. On the outside I was a social, healthy, fun-loving, successful designer and personal trainer. *jazz hands!* On the inside, was a mess. *sad trombone.*

I enlisted a small army of people to help me including an acupuncturist, a therapist, a life coach, a nutritionist and an energy intuitive. There’s no better project than yourself so off I went to start working on myself.

One day in August 2007, I had a true epiphany one sad little Sunday in my San Francisco apartment when I just wanted to disappear. I searched online for “yoga retreat in India” and stumbled upon the word “Ayurveda.” And then…before my eyes was everything I’d always believed about life, healing and mind, body, spirit, but never knew existed. Rivers of tears started flowing as I sobbed my eyes out and paced. How come I didn’t know about this?! Why wasn’t anybody talking about it? What the fruit?! We ALL deserve this! And right then, it became my life’s work (dharma).

I turned down a fancy fulltime design job and four days later I was enrolled in Ayurveda school.

I discovered that while my army was invaluable, Ayurveda covered all those aspects of healing. Most importantly, Ayurveda taught me about…ME. I didn’t need the army nearly as much as I just needed myself. Power and healing comes from within.

My dharma is to lift people to their highest graces by teaching them how to use Ayurveda. (Yes in BOLD!)

After a plethora of queries from friends and family (“Ayur-what?!”),  I created HeyMonicaB in 2008 as a modern day resource for Ayurveda. I welcome your emails, comments, questions and any problems I can help solve. My goal is to expose this ancient science so that we can become a healthier, wiser, and balanced world.

Namasté and *high kick*

BIO

Monica Bloom has been writing about Ayurveda since 2008, as a quest to help people live better according to their unique individuality. In 2015, Monica released (wrote, designed, illustrated) the very first workbook on Ayurveda called, In Your Elements: A Blooming Ayurvedic Guide to Creating You Best Life. Monica is an Ayurvedic Practitioner with a Diploma of Ayurvedic Sciences (2009) and achieved her Certification in Panchakarma in India. She has been a contributing author for prAna, Banyan Botanicals, Everyday Ayurveda, Spirituality Health magazine, and Well & Good NYC and has done Ayurvedic lectures for Athleta, Aveda, Pandora, Popsugar and other corporations in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Monica has an endearing family and currently works a job-job with a 2.5 hour daily commute in tech-crazy San Francisco. She practices daily meditation (on the bus!), exercises regularly, and is an expert at tucking Ayurveda neatly into modern life. She’s just like us. If she can incorporate Ayurveda into her wonky-busy schedule, we can, too.
