Tip: Quick Massage

November 16th, 2011 · 4 Comments

Hey! Tip! If doing the full body oil massage in the morning takes too much time, I have a little short cut. Keep a little container of sesame (vata) or almond (pitta) oil in the shower. After you soap up and rinse off, apply the oil like you would a lotion! Your skin will stay [...]

Tip: Cooling Cucumber Water

June 19th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Is it getting warm outside where you live yet? In America, we are approaching pitta season, which means that it’s heating up both outside and on our insides. One of my favorite treats to beat the heat (that was a lot of ‘eats’) is to float cucumber slices in a pitcher of cool water. Delicious! [...]

What the Fruit?!

April 17th, 2011 · 4 Comments

OH.m.g. I am beside myself. We went grocery shopping today. It was produce time and usually my favorite because it’s the warmest part of the store :) My husband picks up this package which held 4 “apples.” See the label below. My husband kinda giggles in anticipation for my reaction. I was like, “What. Did [...]

Ohhhhh, my sweet sweet coworker turned me on to this website/blog, www.tinybuddha.com, and I just love it. I especially love this post about not being perfect. http://tinybuddha.com/blog/we-are-all-imperfect-how-to-own-it-and-keep-growing/ I was recently talking to a client who feels very much “in the weeds” in her life, yet in order to get out of the weeds, she needs [...]

Holiday Mocktails!

December 19th, 2010 · 2 Comments

Recently a loyal reader of mine had a question about drinking alcohol because she’s menopausal. She noticed she was getting terrible night sweats when she would have beer or a glass of wine. Yes, it was because of the heat in alcohol and her moving from pitta stage (heat escaping) to vata stage of life. [...]

Tip: Clear Burps

September 6th, 2010 · No Comments

HERE’s a lovely thought: When you have clear/clean burps, it means you have fully digested your last meal and your body is ready to eat! A fine example: It’s 6:00 pm (dinner time) and you are still burping up Indian food you had for lunch (burp talk is just never pretty). That means the food [...]

Sure! I’ve got some thoughts (and apparently the desire to draw a little liver). There are some simple spices you can use and even some fun concoctions if you want to get a little fancy. 1. Tumeric is a good one – they come in capsules or you can use in cooking. 2. CCF Tea [...]

Tip: Honey is heating

March 24th, 2010 · No Comments

Hello Honey! ;) Honey might seem sweet, sticky, and heavy. But! It has a special quality (kinda magical) in which it digests hot, sharp, and drying. Great for heating up spring colds and clearing out kapha. That’s why honey is great for colds, mucus in the chest or snotty sinus problems. Oh and use the [...]

East vs. West

March 9th, 2010 · No Comments

I try and spread the good word on Ayurveda authentically, yet as American-friendly as possible. It’s funny though because people will come to me and say, “I’m congested! What should I do?” And I might say, “Are you eating yogurt? It’s a no-good channel clogger which can increase sinus congestion and mucus goo in your [...]
